A passer-by with a tracking app traced the phone’s GPS, which showed it being washed out of reach into the English Channel off Gorey beach in Jersey.

But weeks later, metal detectorist Mihal Stratulat, 36, found it buried in the sand and took it home to dry out – and was stunned when it flickered back to life days later.

He said: “I found the phone about 15 inches under the sand. It had been there for around a month.

“My wife told me to put it in the bin after two days of it not turning on – but then it came on and I couldn’t believe it.”

He then contacted Stacey and reunited her with the phone.

Stacey, from Jersey, was delighted to find her videos and pictures, music and contacts all still intact.

She said: “It’s working perfectly, just as before. Nothing had been lost on it.

“The phone had been down a toilet in a Crete airport before too – it’s absolutely crazy.”
